Phillip Joseph Fearon was born on July 30th, 1956 in the Colony of Jamaica and moved to London at age 6 in 1962. After running a reggae sound system, he joined Hott Wax (later Hi-Tension). Then in the late 1970s, Fearon set up a studio in his north London house and initially recorded with the group Proton on Champagne Records. A few years later, Fearon wanted to produce songs for a band, so he conceived the new band "Galaxy" but wanted to remain behind the scenes. However, the record company encouraged Fearon to front the act after they were impressed by his performance in his demos.

Fearon's first recording as Galaxy was "Head Over Heels" on Ensign Records (Island Records) in 1982, which became an instant club hit. What followed was hit after hit with "Dancing Tight", "What Do I Do", and "Everybody's Laughing", all of which reached the UK Top 40. This ultimately led to the 1984 debut album "Phil Fearon and Galaxy", which was just as much of a success as the singles. Fearon would be the lead vocals, synthesizers, guitars, and drums. Dorothy Galdez (who eventually becomes Fearon's wife) and Julie Gore would provide the backing vocals, Lenny Fearon played the trumpet and percussion, and Claudio Galdez would be playing the saxophone and the flute.

The album peaked at #8 on the UK Albums Chart and #29 on the Dutch Albums. The album was distinctly early 1980s in style, with prominent use of synthesizers filled with upbeat commercial pop songs. The group would later produce another hit single "You Don't Need A Reason" in 1985 followed by their second album, "This Kind Of Love". Eventually, their popularity would soon wane, with the trend moving towards the acid house. In 1987, Fearon founded and managed a successful record label called "Production House Records", though he would be performing behind the scenes. Today, he continues to appear at 1980s soul nights and various festivals around the UK and abroad.

In retrospect, Phil Fearon and Galaxy had their share of top songs, especially in the UK and Europe.
