The Calcutta High Court took suo-moto cognizance of the Rampurhat incident on Thursday. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) submitted its report to the court on Thursday. It was presented by the Advocate General. On the other hand, the IC of Rampurhat police station was suspended. The court heard the matter for an extended period.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday met the families of the deceased in the Rampurhat fire incident. The CM accepted that there was negligence on the part of the police. Mamata Banerjee announced Rs 2 lakh compensation for rebuilding their scorched homes. She also announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of the kin of the victims. She also announced Rs 50,000 each to the injured. Mamata Banerjee offered jobs to 10 families. CM Mamata assured ‘speedy justice’ and ordered the arrest of TMC block president Anarul Hossain if he failed to surrender.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday slammed the local police for not acting immediately and said the Birbhum incident could have been avoided. She said that incident could have been avoided if the police had gone immediately. She further added that they did not fulfill their responsibility. CM Mamata instructed that action must be taken against those who knowingly did not perform their duty.
