The foot file comes with both a coarse and fine sanded roller. Use the blue roller for thicker, dry skin and the black one for regular maintenance. This unit is powered by 2 AA batteries which are not included. It helps to soften your skin first by soaking your feet in hot water for a few minutes and then toweling them dry. The unit is easy to use once you turn it on. Move it in regular strokes over your problem areas while applying a little pressure, and you'll see dead, dry skin flake off. I recommend doing this over some kind of receptacle otherwise you'll have skin shavings all over your floor. Don't concentrate too much on one area though because over buffing can lead to redness or injury.

The rollers are easy to change and replace. With regular use, the manufacturer recommends replacing the roller every 3 months, and that's with only using the unit once a week. It seems kind of frequent, but I guess that depends on how severe your condition is and how long/often you use it. I will say that after using this unit, the old dry skin on my feet was effectively cleaned away leaving fresh, new skin that is softer, and younger/healthier looking.
