Women’s security is not a concern that anyone is not familiar with. Going through the pages of a newspaper, we come across many headlines reporting cases of sexual assault, molestation, sexual harassment, rapes, trafficking, ill-treatment of women in houses, violence against women in remote areas, etc.

Over the past few years, women’s safety in India has reduced due to various continuous and terrible crimes against women.

Startling statistics from India’s National Crime Records Bureau has revealed that sexual assault occurs every 22.5 minutes in India.

Everybody from Governments to various NGOs, and even at the individual level, society is trying to combat this issue. We did our bit by building Sawdhaan Women Safety and Emergency Response app.

Sawdhaan is India’s first-ever AI-enabled Android app that was created primarily keeping women’s safety in mind.

Sawdhaan was created to form an emergency beacon to counter the despicable issues that women face daily and dissuade the occurrence of crime in any form against women.

There are many women safety and emergency response (SOS) apps available in the play store, and there was no need for a new app. However, there is none for the disabled.

Upon testing those apps and analyzing the reviews, we realised that to send the distress message, it is required first to locate the app on the phone and then send the SOS messages to the guardians. However, In case of an emergency, it is impossible sometimes to access the app and then signal your guardians of the situation.

People demanded an app that could trigger the SOS distress message without going through the hassle because it’s not ideal in a situation that requires a quick reaction time.

Well, we at Satak Support tried and created Sawdhaan that solves this specific problem.

Sawdhaan doesn’t require you to access the app to send the SOS distress message to your guardians. You just need to press and hold either of the volume rocker keys to trigger the app, and everything happens on its own.

Information like the user’s location, surrounding voice, and a picture from the front and the primary camera are all compiled in a report and is sent to up to 3 preset guardians as SMS. The primary guardian also receives a call from the user’s mobile. An email with the compiled report is also sent to the registered address. This operation continues every 5 minutes until manually stopped.

Sawdhaan App is Ready, So, why do we need to raise funds now?
OK, So we’ve invested whatever we had and all the money we could’ve raised from family and friends, and we are proud of what we’ve accomplished so far.

Sawdhaan was built in 2018 when it was made for Android 8. There have been many updates with Google’s policies and the operating system.

We’ve updated the code and upgraded all the required libraries as per the nee, but there are a few bugs that we need to iron out. Apart from that, since Sawdhaan is available for free now, we are expecting more people to download the app and a significant server load. We need powerful servers for operation.

With more people using Sawdhaan, more SMS will go out, which are not free, and we’d need cash flow to manage that.

Apart from this, we’ve planned new features that’d require us to put more people to work.

With your support money, we’ll make sure that Sawdhaan continuously works and help everyone.

How will we spend your money!

So far, we’ve been able to build this amazing app using only freelance developers, but for complete implementation of AI and other planned features, it’s required to hire a full-time in-house team of developers.

We need bigger and dedicated servers and also backup servers because, so far, we are only using shared servers that don’t guarantee 100% uptime. (Imagine someone triggers Sawdhaan, and the server is down).

People are not aware that a solution to women’s safety “Sawdhaan” exists, which is making the whole thing completely pointless. We’d need money to create some campaigns to spread awareness about Sawdhaan so that we could help everyone out there.

What are the goals of this fundraising campaign?
As of now, due to a lack of resources, we’ve launched Sawdhaan only in India. However, we also realize that women’s safety is a global issue. So we are planning to release Sawdhaan worldwide.
