“Highlander’s Farewell,” two versions — one an 18th version from Scotland, and one from Emmett Lundy (1864-1953) of Grayson County, Virginia, in the tradition of old-time Southern fiddling. Caroline and I recently played this set as part of a presentation on the history and folkways of the South Carolina Upcountry as an example of continuity and change in the traditions which Scots-Irish settlers brought to the Southern backcountry.
