Astronomy on Tap is a global phenomenon where professional scientists give informal science talks in local bars with accompanying pub trivia and interactions with the public. The Los Angeles chapter of Astronomy on Tap is very active, with monthly events at the Dog Haus Biergarten in Pasadena. This recording is a bit noisy due to the logistics of operating a camera in a crowded bar, but it sufficiently captures the enthusiastic energy of the few hundred attendees each month. Peter Boorman is a postdoctoral fellow in astrophysics at Caltech. He studied physics at the University of Southampton in the UK, earning his PhD in astrophysics in 2019. He later worked as a postdoc at the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague before joining the department at Caltech in 2022. Peter has a broad range of research interests that mainly revolve around the process of accretion onto compact objects like black holes and neutron stars, with a focus on the growth of supermassive black holes billions of times more massive than our Sun. https://peterboorman.com/
