In this video, we perform Activity 1.1 from Chapter 1 – Matter in Our Surroundings (Class 9 NCERT Science). This activity is designed to demonstrate that air occupies space, an important property of matter.

Activity Overview:
We take a beaker filled with water and invert an empty glass into it. Initially, water doesn’t enter the glass because the air inside is taking up space. When the glass is tilted, the air escapes in the form of bubbles, and water takes its place — proving that air occupies space.

What Students Learn:

Air is matter and has volume.

Matter is anything that occupies space and has mass.

Hands-on experiments help in better understanding of science concepts.
