Aerial robotics presents a unique set of challenges distinguishing it from ground-based systems—from strict safety constraints and diverse airframes to real-time control and regulatory pressures. These complexities have driven the creation of an ecosystem of UAV-focused tools, frameworks, and flight stacks—many open source built and/or deployed in Linux.

In this talk, we’ll take a developer-centric journey through the current state of aerial robotics. We’ll explore key components of modern UAV systems, including control and navigation and the rise of flight simulators. We’ll also touch on vehicle-specific considerations for quadcopters, VTOLs, and beyond.
