Описание к видео Cell Diffusion | Fick's Law | Physiology

Diffusion biology is pretty easy. We've been learning it since the 12th grade. I can literally talk about diffusion for hours, but I've kept it simpler for the students studying at sqadia.com. You will see this video on cell diffusion and get a better grasp of the concept and its different types from a physiology perspective today. 📚

▬ 📃 Cellular Diffusion ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Imagine standing in a closed elevator with no space at all. What do you think at that time? Well, you can’t wait to get off the elevator and breathe freely in an open space. The same is the case with particles. They also want to breathe freely when enclosed in a tight space. In that space, they may collide with one another and sometimes try to repel each other.

Just like we would behave in the elevator! This phenomenon of particles is known as diffusion. The random movement of these particles produces heat in the form of kinetic energy. Learn about this with the example of a moving bus in this video. I have specifically talked about cell membrane diffusion as this is a physiology video. 🔬v

▬ 📜 Types of Diffusion ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
People get really confused with the types of diffusion because their details are quite extensive. But in simpler terms, there are only two types of diffusion. The rest are either parts of it or explanations of these two types, which are:
🟠 Simple Diffusion (non-facilitated)
🟠 Facilitated Diffusion

▬ 📃 Non-facilitated Diffusion ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
In this type of diffusion, particles don’t need the help of a foreign agent to move from one place to another. Now, the particles are of two types: lipid-soluble and water-soluble. Before diving into these particles, let's understand the structure of the cell membrane. I won't be explaining it here—go watch the video and see for yourself. 🎥

▬ 📜 Simple Diffusion in Lipid-soluble Molecules ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
The lipid solubilities of oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and alcohol are high, and all these substances can dissolve directly in the lipid bilayer and diffuse through the cell membrane. It's like mixing Coca-Cola with water. Try it if you don’t believe me. 🥤

Watch the video for interesting visuals as well. 👀

▬ 📃 Simple Diffusion in Water-soluble Molecules
Even though water is highly insoluble in the membrane lipids, it readily passes through channels in protein molecules that penetrate all the way through the membrane. Many of the body’s cell membranes contain protein “pores” called aquaporins that selectively permit the rapid passage of water through the membrane.

Channel-mediated diffusion also occurs within the water-soluble molecules. They are basically of two types:
🔵 Voltage-gated channels
🔵 Ligand-gated channels

There wouldn't be any fun if I explained both of these channels here. See the visuals for these channels in the third section of this video.

▬ 📜 Facilitated Diffusion ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Facilitated diffusion is also called carrier-mediated diffusion because a substance transported in this manner diffuses through the membrane with the help of a specific carrier protein. The carrier facilitates the diffusion of the substance to the other side.

Also, watch the difference between Diffusion and Facilitated Diffusion in the video. 🎬
