Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called on Palestinians to come up with some concessions in exchange for a freeze on settlement construction.

Netanyahu made his demand on Friday in a speech to members of the Los Angeles Jewish Federation.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has once again rejected suggestions that Israel halt construction in the West Bank without concessions from Palestinian negotiators.

In a speech to the Los Angeles Jewish Federation in Jerusalem, Netanyahu said Israel wasn't prepared to entertain the idea of a unilateral time-out on settlement construction.

"The idea of a 'time-out' can't be a unilateral Israeli exercise. We have a path towards a final settlement chartered under the Oslo Accords. It doesn't include any limitations whatsoever on settlement. If Israel is asked to undertake limitations on settlements, we must ask, 'What limitations does the Palestinian side suggest for itself?'

Netanyahu also clarified his position on Jerusalem, stating that Jerusalem will remain the united capital of Israel.

"We're going to keep on building in Jerusalem. Jerusalem will remain a united city under Israel. We'll never allow it to be divided again. We'll never build a 'Berlin Wall' inside Jerusalem. Jerusalem is ours and it'll stay ours. It is the city of the Jewish people."

Meanwhile, in the West Bank town of Bethlehem, Palestinian students put on a play to show solidarity with prisoners and Palestinians during the intifada.

The play included clashes between Palestinian stone throwers and Israeli soldiers and had Palestinians burning an Israeli flag.

The presentation was put on by a cast of 30 students, and had an audience of 200 fellow students.
