In this video I invite you to join me on what quickly became one of my favorite flights of all time. QX2400... Horizon Air's final Bombardier DHC-8-402 (Q400) flight. Other airlines take note! This is how you send an aircraft off to retirement! I present to you, in full 4K 60fps, the entire experience, so you too can enjoy this historic event. Only 76 passengers could be on the flight, but there are many other aviation enthusiasts, Horizon/Alaska employees, Bombardier employees, Pacific Northwesterners, and others who wish they could have been there. And I do the best I can to bring everyone along on the journey! As you can hear in the video, the Q400 has been a huge part of Horizon Air for over 20 years. Many employees, including the Captain of this flight have spent their entire careers working on/with the Q400. The Q400 has had over 1,000,000 takeoffs and landings since it entered the Horizon fleet. In this video we take the final two. N421QX will be the aircraft taking us on this journey. Painted in the retro Horizon Air colors, that Horizon employees call the meatball. If flying on a special livery, on an aircraft's final flight wasn't special enough... This flight is also Horizon Air's senior Q400 pilot's retirement flight. That's right, the Captain of this flight was retiring as well. Has any other pilot ever shared their retirement flight with the aircraft they spent their career flying? I don't know, but how special. Two retirements in one video! And just a couple notes before we begin! I really wish Horizon had scheduled this flight during the day. Filming at night in 4K is not easy, and I hope I did it justice. Also, there was no water cannon salute at either airport due to the temperatures hovering right around freezing. Now sit back, relax, and enjoy the festivities as we say farewell to the Q400! Enjoy!
