URS (or Urs) is an Arabic term that means wedding or wedding anniversary. However, in the context of Sufi Islam URS refers to the annual commemoration and celebration of the death anniversary of a Sufi saint which is often considered a spiritual union of the saint with the divine. During URS events, devotees and followers of the Sufi order gather at the shrine of the saint to pray offer their respects and engage in various spiritual practices and rituals.

URS sharif is a term used to honor the noble and sanctified nature of these events. It is often associated with the reverence and blessings of the Sufi saint whose death anniversary is being commemorated. URS sharif gatherings are a significant aspect of Sufi culture and are characterized by music poetry and a sense of spiritual devotion. These events vary in size and scale depending on the popularity and significance of the Sufi saint being celebrated.

Sufism is a mystical branch of Islam and Sufi orders place a strong emphasis on spirituality love and devotion to God. URS events are a way for followers to connect with the teachings and spiritual legacy of the Sufi saint and seek blessings and guidance in their own spiritual journey.
