Love for Ghena - musical portrait dedicated to her 75th anniversary (2016)

The 69-minute musical portrait, written and directed by Dimitar Sotirov and cameraman and producer Milena Stoykova is dedicated to 75-years anniversary since the birth of the great dramatic soprano Ghena Dimitrova. The film reminds her major performances on stages all over the world including Arena di Verona, La Scala – Milan, Metropolitan Opera – New York, Nagoya – Japan, Sofia, Naples – Italy, Pleven – Bulgaria (her native city). Airs and duets from operas by Verdi, Puccini, Mascagni and Giordano are mixed with souvenirs about the performer of her colleagues and friends. Among them are Jose Carreras, Placido Domingo, Fiorenza Cosotto, Roberto Scandiuzzi, Kurt Rydl, Bruna Baglioni, Alexandrina Milcheva, Alexandrina Pendachanska, Anna Tomowa-Syntow, Luciana d’Intino. It is the first time when unique pictures featuring Ghena Dimitrova behind the stage, rehearsing with partners like Nicola Martinucci and Giuseppe Giacomini could be seen on screen. There are also intimate moments of the performer with her family, friends and students. The film shows great moments from the life of the soprano such as her awarding with “Puccini” award together with Franco Zeffirelli in Torre del Lago.
