Member of Parliament Anurag Thakur delivered a spirited defense of the Union Budget 2025-26 in the Lok Sabha, launching a direct attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Thakur remarked, 'Earlier, Mr. Rahul used to run away from the middle of my speech. Now, he has started running away before the situation gets worse,' accusing the opposition of lacking the stamina for truth. He characterized the budget as a '12-year reform express' that transitioned India from 'policy paralysis to policy performance.' Thakur presented an alphabetical 'A to Z' framework of the government's achievements, ranging from 'Anndata' to 'Zero Poverty.' He highlighted significant economic shifts, noting that the agriculture budget rose from ₹27,000 crore under the UPA to over ₹1.67 lakh crore. He also lauded Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for achieving a fiscal deficit of 4.4%, surpassing the 4.5% target. The speech emphasized women's empowerment, citing the ₹5 lakh crore gender budget allocation and the rise in the female labor force participation rate to 42%.
