Orton Gillingham lesson: Word and Sentence Reading, Multi-sensory Structured Language Teaching

Описание к видео Orton Gillingham lesson: Word and Sentence Reading, Multi-sensory Structured Language Teaching

Every Orton Gillingham lesson includes a segment for word and sentence reading. Real as well as nonsense words can be utilized. It is important to use controlled text, meaning that the student has been explicitly taught how to decode the words that he/she will encounter in this text. Knowing how to tackle the words will build the student's confidence as a reader, and the student will come to trust that the teacher will not expect them to do something that they haven't been explicitly taught to do. This portion of the lesson is also used to build fluency and accuracy in reading.
In this particular lesson, the teacher and student demonstrate a variety of multi-sensory strategies, such as using a colored chip, previewing and highlighting, reviewing concepts, and syllable division to decode an unfamiliar word.
