In March of 2020, the Bronx was the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic in New York—and the world. Within the walls of Montefiore Medical Center, critical care staff struggled to manage the swell of patients with severe disease.

Among the youngest of these frontline workers were internal medicine residents, some of whom were recent medical school graduates. Yet, they rose to the challenge. Through personal interviews with residents and their program directors, footage from hospital wards, and original animation, this short documentary provides a first-hand look at the courage and compassion of the residents, as well as the traumas they experienced during the initial COVID-19 surge.

This video is dedicated to the physicians, nurses, and the many others in healthcare who risked – or lost – their lives caring for patients during the pandemic.
