I met Caroline almost 10 years ago when Gabe was 6 years old. On our second date I told her I had an autistic son and she didn't flinch.
Fast forward to a year later and she had moved in to our apartment. Not too long after that she became his "bonus mom!"
Caroline is a teacher and an athlete. She played a variety of sports growing up and was particularly good at basketball. About a year ago Gabe began to show an interest in sports and she has been working with him on shooting, dribbling, passing, and how to play the game.
It took a year for Gabe to develop the motor planning skills needed to throw the basketball up into the air. Caroline took him to the adaptive court until he mastered getting the ball in every hoop! Gabe also works with a trainer who has helped him build strength and confidence. Now there is no stopping Gabe!
