Parliament's Ad Hoc Committee will engage with the relevant authorities on the process to get the remanded detainee, Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala to appear before it, in person.

The committee was established by a motion of the National Assembly, following allegations of criminal infiltration, corruption and political interference in the justice system.

These allegations were made by KZN Police Commissioner, Lt-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, in July this year.

Among others, Mkhwanazi alleged that the now, placed on special leave Police minister, Senzo Mchunu, was associated with individuals suspected to have links with drug cartels, such as Matlala. It would be a first in the history of Parliament to have an awaiting-trial prisoner appear before it.
