In this video I take a look at one of the strangest and least-known stories in Islamic tradition. Most Muslims have never heard it, and there is a good reason for that. The hadith describes an encounter that raises some serious questions about Muhammad’s life, Islamic morality, and the way these stories are protected from criticism.

I break the story down, explain where it comes from, and talk about why it has become such a point of discussion among ex-Muslims. Many people grow up believing these texts are beyond question. Then they read something like the Al-Zutt story and realise the picture they were given was incomplete. It often becomes the first moment where the fear around questioning Islam starts to disappear.
