GRETCHEN RUBIN: Well, there's all kinds of research about which professions tend to be happier or less happy. But I think for the individual person, the question is like, well, what kind of person are you. What appeals to you. What are you interested in. What challenges you. What environment do you like to find yourself in. And can you get yourself there. And what's a place where your skills are valued. Because not all environments are the same. Not all. Not all professions and jobs value the same things. So it's really about thinking about yourself first rather than thinking like Oh, everybody is happier if they're a physical therapist. Therefore, I will be a physical therapist because maybe you don't want to be a physical therapist. I think that sometimes professions are happier, less happy based on how many people go there as a default. Like I trained as a lawyer, and lawyers are often like, oh, it's an unhappy profession. But one of the reasons is that a lot of people go to law school as kind of a default. They go because they don't know what else to do. That's why I went. And so then it makes sense that they don't particularly want to be lawyers. But then there's things like if you're a sound engineer, you probably wanted to be a sound engineer, because why else would it occur to you to be a sound engineer. So I think part of it is like the match with you and what you're interested in and what your strengths are, and only you can figure that out.
