The Tailor's Friendly Instructor (1822) - https://www.google.co.uk/books/editio...

In this video, we're revisiting a Regency-inspired men's overcoat project that I initially based on McCalls M4745, a Civil War uniform pattern. Join me as I upgrade this coat by adding a luxurious rose-colored silk lining and making some unique modifications.

We'll dive into the step-by-step process, starting with the importance of ironing and preparing your fabric before cutting. I'll share my method for adjusting and combining pattern pieces to achieve an authentic Regency look, including a special trick for drafting seamless sections.

The highlight of this project is the addition of historical capes inspired by a plate from the 1822 Tailor’s Friendly Instructor. I'll walk you through the construction, showing how I aligned and attached the capes, and discuss some challenges I faced along the way.

Finally, I'll reveal the finished coat and talk about its practical use for LARP events and its versatility in various weather conditions. If you enjoy Regency and Romantic era menswear, make sure to like, comment, and subscribe for more historical costuming adventures.
