Imagine getting your butt kicked by martial arts film legend Jackie Chan and the OG Karate Kid, Ralph Macchio? That’s the reality of a day at work for actor Ben Wang who describes the experience as his ‘wildest dream scenario.’

In this episode of ReelTalk, Ben interviews Wang (Mean Girls, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping) and Macchio (The Karate Kid, The Outsiders) about the new incarnation of the 1984 cinematic hit, The Karate Kid Legends.

Wang, who plays the new ‘karate kid’ tells Ben while audiences won’t see the iconic ‘crane’ move from the original series, they’ll be blown away by the fight scenes and a new ‘dragon kick.’

With Mr Miyagi (Pat Morita) no longer around, Macchio tells Ben it was fun to reprise his role as Daniel LaRusso, but this time, over 40 years later, as the Sensei, who, along with Hong Kong’s famous film export, Jackie Chan is called upon to guide Wang’s character, Kung Fu prodigy, Li Fong to win a karate competition.

The movie also stars Joshua Jackson (Dawson’s Creek, Fringe, The Mighty Ducks), Ming-Na Wen (Mulan, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D), Aramis Knight (The Dark Knight Rises, Ender’s Game) and Sadie Stanley (Dead to Me, Cruel Summer).

Macchio describes the film as multigenerational entertainment and tells Ben, both fans and newcomers of The Karate Kid series will leave the cinema feeling satisfied.

The Karate Kid Legends is rated PG and is now showing in Australian cinemas.
