How to Carve Pumpkins Step By Step: Six Levels of Halloween Pumpkin Carving Difficulty

In this video I will teach you lots of pumpkin carving skills to help make your Jack-o-Lanterns look incredible. From how to get started, rookie errors to avoid, and creating basic designs, to how to step up your Pumpkin Carving game with more advanced techniques like back carving and adding detail to your pumpkin. Pumpkin carving is easy with my clever little hacks, and you don't need any special equipment: all of these designs are created using ordinary kitchen knives and utensils. We are going to create 6 Jack-o-Lantern designs, each teaching you a new skill or technique that you can use to help you create your own designs in future. This really is a way to go from complete novice to expert in just one easy lesson.
I start with the real basics, like tips if you want to grow your own pumpkin, and how to get your pumpkin ready for carving. You'll be amazed how many people get this step wrong - it's all about cutting the lid at the right angle, otherwise it can fall off! Simple rookie error, but easy to avoid with my tips! Then I'll take you through a really easy traditional pumpkin design that is perfect if you have small kids, and also show you how to make your pumpkin face more spooky and creepy if you have older kids. Then we really start to have fun as I show you how to carve out a tarantula and a rat using two different techniques. Things get really impressive as I show you how to back carve a witch design - this means carving the design in the skin of the pumpkin so that the light actually glows through the pumpkin flesh! Finally we really go to town with a whimsical Pied Piper design packed with absolutely loads of amazing detail!
