RAF Dalton in North Yorkshire, a largely forgotten about airfield, opened in November 1941 as a satellite for Topcliffe in No.4 Group with a grass flying field and few facilities.

In 1942 Dalton was expanded into a fully equipped bomber base and three tarmac runways were laid with perimeter track and 36 pan type dispersals, with improvements made to other facilities. It is clear that the original configuration was changed and the runways were extended before completion.

however on June 5th 1943 Dalton was allocated for a training role and was to see a number of specialised flights in residence. on the 3rd of August when No. 6 Aircrew School disbanded at Dalton, the airfield was no longer required

From 1952 to January 1955 No.91 Maintenance Unit used parts of the airfield for bomb storage, after this the airfield site was put up for disposal and now is the location for an industrial estate
