Joséphine De Beauharnais - Napoléon's GREAT Love

Описание к видео Joséphine De Beauharnais - Napoléon's GREAT Love

Joséphine de Beauharnais was born on 23 June 1763 in Trois-Îlets in Martinique and died on 29 May 1814 in the Château de Malmaison in Rueil-Malmaison. She was the first wife of Emperor Napoleon I from 1796 to 1809. As such, she was Empress of the French from 1804 to 1809 and Queen of Italy from 1805 to 1809.
Josephine was born into a family of Békés on a large estate in Martinique. She arrived in France after her marriage to Alexandre de Beauharnais, who was executed during the French Revolution. During the revolution, Joséphine herself was imprisoned for several months. While frequenting the Parisian salons, she met General Bonaparte, with whom she remarried. This second marriage enabled her to become empress, but she was deemed unsuitable due to her inability to produce an heir. Napoleon divorced her, and she retired to her estate at Malmaison. Despite the marriage with Napoleon remaining childless, Josephine had a large posterity thanks to the children of her first marriage. Through them, she was the grandmother of Emperor Napoleon III, who ruled France from 1852 to 1870.
