Oh. I thought this was going to be another silly album. This album isn't silly at all.
Here's the thing: the person who approached me with this album also plays in a few other Isreali punk bands, which includes the likes of Delfin (https://delfinpunx.bandcamp.com/music), Ghost Spell (https://ghostspell.bandcamp.com/relea..., Secret Service (https://scrtsrvce.bandcamp.com/releases), and Sweatshop Boys (https://sweatshopboyspunk.bandcamp.com/). All of those albums are, in their own... indistinctly-distinct way, thoroughly unconventional. I was mentally-primed for another stint of circus-y, potentially keyboard-backed garage rock inanity, but you could imagine my surprise when I instead received a swift punch to the teeth as the band's burly guitar tone and propulsive drum beats kicked in without much preamble or foreplay. "Youtube-Punk-Blogger" isn't a career path that's best known for its all-inclusive dental plan. I am upset.
This is Jarada from Tel Aviv Yafo, Israel, and this is their newest serving of relentless hardcore brutality, "Ma'agal Sina'a". If you directly translate the band's name and album title, you'll find that it can be roughly interpreted as "Anxiety" and "Circle of Hate" respectively -- that alone should tell you just about everything you can expect from this project. As the album was described to me in the aforementioned email, these are "eight songs of more of the same anger and anguish, but with some extra zest of self-pity and alienating, brutal honesty", which according to them, was spurred into actuality by the recent political climate surrounding Isreal. And, as we all know, some of the best instances of hardcore were stoked by the flames of political unrest. Well, either that, or a lot of malt liquor or something. Regardless, this album is a proper scorcher far as coarse, darkened auditory abuse is concerned, and you can expect nothing but beautifully-structured devastation out of these reverberative rhythms, garishly-muddied guitar instrumentation, and wicked vocal barks -- which are sung entirely in Hebrew, by the way. As to not "hide their roots, as rotten as they may be".
Some records are available at the links below, through Doomtown Records, No Spirit, and Crapoulet. Consider nabbing yourself a copy if you want something new to vibrate your walls with. Real bassy, this one.
