Herbert WANKA, born in 1938, learned archetypal craftsmanship between 1952 and 1955 at the Lehrwerkstatt für Musikinstrumentenbau (workshop for apprentices in instrument making) in Bubenreuth under the direction of Emanuel Schuster.


After completing the program, he worked for several years as an apprentice at Gotthard Schuster's respected Bubenreuth bowling workshop.


1968 did his exam of master in the manufacture of bows under the auspices of the chamber of commerce of Nuremberg.


1971 opened his own workshop in Bubenreuth. 1977 moved the workshop to Baiersdorf.


Stylistically influenced by his long-term Master Gotthard Schuster, as well as the classic French Models of Sartory and Lamy, he makes his bows after his ideal personal model, which basically has never changed over the years.


Due to the continuity in his work and quality, he was able to develop his reputation by musicians and colleagues during his independence on a constant basis.


Today Herbert Wanka recalls an experience of more than 50 years in the manufacture of bows. The high acceptance of his bows by musicians in Germany and abroad reflects the appreciation of his work again.
