To Mohan music was life-his very soul. To his father, Popatlal, a petition writer, it was just the opposite. He felt that Mohan was a blot on the family prestige, and Mohan had to leave the house to fulfil his lifes ambition to become a good musician. . He came to Bombay and his great love-music-brought him in contact with Seth Heerachand. To him Mohan owed his great success as Music Director and also to him he owed his acquaintance with Kamini. Kamini was Seth Heerachands elder daughter. Between the gentle-hearted sympathetic Kamini and Mohan the acquaintance soon grew in deep understanding love But the consumption of that love was denied to them by Kaminis younger sister, Asha. Asha was an impulsive temperamental girl but was also an apple of Kaminis eye. Asha wanted Mohan for herself, and not only Kamini sacrificed her love for her sisters sake, but also made Mohan agree to the proposal as a price of his affection for her. . Unaware as Asha was of Mohans sentiments for Kamini, the marriage was destined to be an unhappy one. Asha found Mohan more engrossed in his music, in his silent dejected tunes, than in her salf, and the impulsive Asha revolted against this. When she learned that it was Kamini who was the cause of Mohans dejection and frustration her anger knew no bound. She hated Kamini, she hated her father and dear ones, consumed her own self in the fire kindled by her own hand. . The pangs of birth killed Asha, but left behind a mother-less child to remind every body of the sad past. But Kanini brought up the child as her own and extended silent sympathy for the bruised heart of Mohan. . The grief-laden, sad songs played by Mohan on his violin, were the sweetest for Kamini, who had stored a volcano in her heart with a smile on her face.
