Bangladesh Chief Justice & Central Bank Governor Quit Amid Protests

Bangladesh Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan has stepped down amidst massive protests outside the country's Supreme Court in Dhaka. The protesters gathered outside the top court demanding Hassan’s resignation. He was appointed as the Bangladesh Supreme Court’s head in 2023 and is seen as a loyalist to ousted Premier Sheikh Hasina. Meanwhile, Central Bank governor Abdur Rouf Talukder has also tendered his resignation, but it has not been accepted yet. Civil unrest continues to grip the country despite the formation of an interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus. The interim leader appealed for religious unity in the country amid reports of attacks on the minority Hindu community. Yunus has said restoring law and order is the government's priority.
