Officer Training for Dogra Scouts in the Indian Army:

The Dogra Scouts, a specialized infantry unit, recruit officers primarily from the Indian Army’s Dogra Regiment. These officers undergo rigorous training to lead high-altitude warfare and counter-infiltration operations in Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh.

Training Process:

Commissioning: Officers are trained at NDA/IMA/OTA before being assigned to the parent Dogra Regiment.

High-Altitude Warfare Training: Conducted at the High-Altitude Warfare School (HAWS), Gulmarg, to master survival and combat in extreme conditions.

Counter-Infiltration Training: Specialization in border security, ambush tactics, and surveillance against intrusions.

Leadership & Tactics: Intensive leadership development through junior and senior command courses, focusing on patrolling, navigation, and tactical operations.

These officers play a critical role in border security and mountain warfare, ensuring effective operations in challenging terrains.

About the host:

Lt. Commander Nikhil Kumar Chandrakala (Retd.) served as the Youngest Panelist on the Officers' Selection Board of the Indian Navy. He is the youngest Group Testing Officer to have served in the Indian Armed Forces since 1947!

Lt. Cdr. Nikhil KC (Retd.) has also served in some coveted appointments onboard frigates in the Western Fleet of the Indian Navy, on ships of Killer Squadron, legacy bearer of 1971 war. He was also Aide-De-Camp of the Admiral Commanding Maharashtra and Gujarat Naval Area.

As Captain of the Warship – Indian Naval Immediate Support Vessel T-15, Senior Officer, ISVs (West), he spearheaded a team of 16 officers and 102 men to defend Oil-Field Exploration Areas on the Western Seaboard of India. He and his team were featured in a documentary shot by India Today TV which was aired on National Television on 26 Jan 2017.
