A full restored/remade version of Kaiju-O Gojira (怪獣王ゴジラ) - Monster King Godzilla - 1957 Main Titles/End Credits in high definition (1080p).
Presented in its controversed theatrical TohoScope Version (東宝スコープ)

As November 2021 was marking Godzilla’s 67th birthday, I decided to make something related to my favorite mighty Kaiju. My goal for this little project, was to restore/rebuild the main titles of the Japanese release of "Godzilla, King of the Monsters" in a high quality mainly because there’s no way to find a good copy/source of this strange 1957 japanese edit.

For this new restoration project, I decided to use the recent 4K restoration of the 1954 "Gojira" combined with restored footage of "Godzilla, King of the Monsters" from Criterion Collection. A very bad preserved print of "Kaiju-O Gojira" footage provided by SpaceHunterM and Ben Wagner was used as timing reference for music and credits duration, big credits to them and their wonderful work in Godzilla movies preservation.
"Godzilla" Title Card, which is specific to this version, comes from a TV Broadcast on Comet Channel.
Each credit cards/fonts/frame was carefully recreated on Procreate and the final cut was rendered on Sony Vegas Pro 16. During end credits shots, I added film grain to give a more authantic cinematographic vibe to this recreation. I deliberately decided to not include the japanese subtitles which were originaly present for japanese audiences.

MORE INFO ABOUT THIS 1957 GODZILLA VERSION:
Ishiro Honda, was unaware that his 1954 box office hit GOJIRA (ゴジラ) had been re-edited until TOHO released "Godzilla, King of the Monsters" in Japan in May 1957 as "Monster King Godzilla" (Kaiju-O Gojira). To adapt the "old" 1954 original 4:3 screen ratio to "modern" audiences more accustomed to widescreen format movies, Toho converted the entire film from its original scope to a TohoScope (2.35:1) format. This conversion resulted in an awkward crop for the entire film. Japanese subtitles were also given to the Japanese actors since their original dialogue differed greatly from the original script and were dubbed in English.

I really tried to do my best to make a good quality version of "Kaiju-O Gojira" Intro & End Credits with all the sources that I was able to use and I hope you'll enjoy this new video. Happy Birthday again to the King of the Monsters! Godzilla!
