Hong Kong police on Saturday arrested a man suspected of instigating others to kill police officers through social media.

The man surnamed Zhu, 30 years old, is an assistant at the Hong Kong Immigration Office.

His recent posts on social media said that he would donate 10,000 Hong Kong dollars (1,285 U.S. dollars) for every killing of a police officer.

Zhu reported to the police on Saturday that someone else had stolen his social media account and posted the related messages.

However, Hong Kong police found out through their investigation that it was Zhu himself who posted the messages of instigation.

On Sunday, the police brought Zhu to his residence in Wong Tai Sin to conduct a search, and took a computer back to the police station.

The police said that it carried out the investigation of the incident after its cyber-security and technology crime department noticed recently that somebody was instigating people to kill police officers through social media.
