I never thought I’d be a writer. It seemed like too much of a stretch - it was something other people did. I didn’t believe it was an option for people like me. In this video I explain some of the factors (childhood, teenage years, jobs) that contributed to me becoming a writer.

If you were brought up with no books in the house - you can still become a writer. If you haven’t studied English or Creative Writing - you can still become a writer. If your friends and family laugh at the idea of you writing novels - ignore them, you can still become a writer. You need to read, write, and be open to ideas. If you’re writing then you’re a writer.

We all suffer from self-doubt. That we don’t belong or we don’t stand a chance. That the odds are too slim. It’s normal. But try to focus on the act of writing. On the books you’re reading. If your work is good it will be discovered. Be patient. Hang in there.
