Jillian Wuestenberg and her husband Eric shared their side of the story tonight for the first time since the incident occurred on July 1, 2020. In a tearful interview that lasted about 15 minutes Jillian talked about the events that led up to the video seen by millions all over the world.
Jillian said that only 1 door was in use for entrance and exit that day probably due to COVID restrictions.
She said didn’t even really even realize she bumped someone on her way out.
After she exited the restaurant, she turned around and the 15 yr old girl who was walking in was upset & yelling at her.
Jillian said she held her left hand up and said “Walk away”
Jillian said she was afraid, terrified even. Jillian said after watching the video she feels like she was even in more danger than she initially thought.
Jillian said she had her CPL for just under a year and had never pulled her gun out before. She said she’s owned guns for a couple of years, and grew up around then, and that they were an everyday part of life for her growing up. She said the factors that contributed to her pulling her weapon included the fact that there were multiple assailants in very close proximity. Jillian claimed she felt like “I’m not going home tonight.” She thought “I need to live, I need to survive.” Jillian said there weren’t any children in the van. She said if she knew what was going to happen, she never would’ve left the house, she would’ve cooked dinner at home.
Jillian’s attorney advised her not to answer any questions regarding her pregnancy. Jillian said she’s not ignorant or racist and that everyone is important to her and she adores people. Jillian said she doesn’t want anything to happen to anyone else. “I don’t wish hate on anyone.” “We just wanted to go home.”
Eric Wuestenberg said he got involved when she told him to call the police. He said he got out to open up the door to help her into the van. Eric said he just walked away and even tried to de-escalate by rolling up the window as Jillian was trying to sympathize with the family. Eric stated that he called 911 and said he was blocked in and couldn’t leave. Eric said he lost his job over this but was advised by his attorney not to discuss it further. When asked, Eric said he was surprised by how big this story has gotten.
