STORYLINE:
Salt Lake City and its international airport have teamed up to open a food pantry to support federal employees working through the government shutdown.

Employees from the Transportation Security Administration, Customs and Border Protection and other agencies have access to free food, toiletries and home goods for as long as the shutdown lasts.

Mayor Erin Mendenhall told reporters Thursday that many federal workers are living paycheck to paycheck and that she believes the city has a responsibility to step in and support them.

"We have a responsibility to do whatever we can," said Mendenhall. "This is how we step up."
