About 3,000 islanders could depart from Montserrat shortly,
leaving behind 2,000 people who are unwilling to leave despite
warnings of a "cataclysmic" volcanic eruption, British governor
Frank Savage said on Friday (22/8).
Late on Friday, some youths -- mainly Rastafarians -- burned
tyres in the streets of Salem, venting their frustration at the
new, enlarged danger zone that requires them to move farther
north, and at the British government assistance offer of 2,400
pounds (US$3,800) per adult evacuee.
A British Royal Navy destroyer, HMS Liverpool, is anchored off
the north end of the island, ready to coordinate any mass
evacuation.

They give you something. Every month they give you a hundred
