Understanding “Ilm Ḥablul Matīn” – The Firm Rope of God
In Qur’an (3:101), Allāh says:
“And whoever holds fast to Allāh has been guided to a straight path.”
But how does one hold fast to Allāh? This verse contains a deeper esoteric truth. The "firm rope" (ḥablul matīn) is not a literal rope—but a spiritual connection. It is the Divine Guide of the time—the living representative of God—who is the manifestation of this rope.
The verse tells us: holding to God means holding to His representative, who is the living embodiment of the straight path. The path is the symbol (mithāl), and the Imām of the time is its true meaning (mamthūl). Through him, the believer is not only shown the way but is personally guided upon it. To truly walk the straight path, one must grasp this firm rope—given by God Himself.
