This is an areal view of the current state of La Sagesse beach in St. David Grenada.
There were a series of flooding and landslides in Grenada following some heavy rainfall in the month of November. Although we would have seen a few small slides annually, these were a lot more frequent and destructive.

We went to La Sagesse beach for a dip and after seeing lots of large tree trunks washed down by the river, I took the drone out to see where they were coming from.
Most of the land on one side of the river were marked for development of two massive mega hotels. The first one already near completion over the watershed area of the previous salt pond. This was a mangrove eco system with a fluctuating brackish water pond which a hub for biodiversity with thriving flora and fauna. Unfortunately the habitat was completely destroyed and the pond drenched and given permanent open communication with the sea. So now this salt water pond no longer hold any significant amount of species.
A massive hotel is built around the pond, and another is being constructed nearby on the main La Sagesse beach area.
The huge buildings already towering over what was once hard wood vegetation over a traditional flood plain and underground watershed. The ramming and filling of these area to be able to carry such massive buildings can only negatively affect the water carrying capacity of the location.
This can indirectly be the cause for the massive flooding and landslides further inland.

I did this video to show what things are currently like in La Sagesse, you be the judge of is it is a good step forward or a bad precedence.

I do not go the that beach as much as I did in the past primarily due to the destruction of the bird habitat and the lack of public access to the new pond, so I was a bit surprised to see how far they got with the development.
