Planting an Apple Tree| Flatworms | Harvesting Carrots, Parsnips, Desiree Potatoes | Irish Garden

Gardening in home kitchen garden, greenhouse, orchard, rose garden and other ornamental areas in windy South-West on Ireland. Always companioned by our playful sheepdog.

The time for planting bareroot plants or moving trees and shrubs time is nearly up, so I used my chance to re-plant a young apple tree from the orchard to the kitchen garden.

''Every day is a school day'' is the saying, and it couldn't be more true when dealing with nature.
A video clip by Tanya ‪@Lovelygreens‬ led me to recognise an invader in our garden, which I had always thought to be a type of a leech, but actually is a flatworm.

Luckily I had already been treating any encounters with these flatworms as I do with slugs - gathering them up and feeding them to our hens.

Harvested more carrots, parsnips and my last pot of potatoes.
Such a lovely surprise with the parsnips, as I had forgotten about them in the planter, yet they had grown to a beautiful size.
The last pot of potatoes was pot #4 Desiree, and I will be growing this variety again this year.
I originally planted 138gr and harvested 1098gr.
