Girtain: Going Home, for Chamber Orchestra (MIDI)

From our place we perceive the distant boom of drums and the drone of wind instruments as a solemn procession draws near. Melodies pile one on the other. Where is this procession going? The music becomes festive, jubilant, even ecstatic. It ebbs and flows as we become enveloped and lost in the experience of the joyful noise. Where is all of this going? The hymn tune bubbling up from the basses reveals: this is a funeral procession. A heavenly home is the destination. The procession passes us by, ascending, growing distant, until it is gone. And have we been left behind?
