The town of Boao, located in the east of Qionghai City in Hainan Province, People’s Republic of China, is the permanent venue of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference.

Boao is a semi-fishing and semi-farming town known for its farms, strange stones, hot springs, coconut trees, sandy beaches, rivers, lakes, seas, mountains and isles. The place abounds with marine products and tropical fruits. Due to its natural landscape, Boao boasts of a nearly perfect ecological protection.

The name Boao, which means ‘abundant fish and fat fish’, originated from the records of Hainan Annals during the reign of Zheng De in the Ming Dynasty that identified ‘fishing residents’ as the earliest inhabitants of the town.

As the site of the yearly BFA Annual Conference, Boao aims to become a world-class conference center and a tourist holiday spending resort offering distinctive characteristics.
