The NEW Controversial Grand Canyon Monument (Documentary) | Ancestral Footprints of the Grand Canyon

Описание к видео The NEW Controversial Grand Canyon Monument (Documentary) | Ancestral Footprints of the Grand Canyon

This is a short documentary about the new Baaj Nwaavjo I'tah Kukveni Ancestral Footprints of the Grand Canyon National Monument. In this program, we delve into the new monument and its controversial establishment. The monument was established by President Joe Biden on August 8, 2023, to the satisfaction of Native American tribes and the dismay of mining interests and ranchers. We explore the history of uranium mining on the Navajo Reservation and the Arizona Strip. Additionally, we discuss the development of the U.S. nuclear weapons arsenal. We examine the history and modern practices of ranching.

Along with this discussion, we address the lawsuit filed by Arizona’s Mohave County, which challenges President Biden's designation as not following the guidelines of the Antiquities Act of 1906. Local townships of Fredonia and Colorado City, Arizona, have joined the lawsuit. The 2021 USGS reports indicate that contamination at the Grand Canyon from uranium is limited to the slightest degree.
