The Scandinavian

Situated near the Danish capital of Copenhagen, The Scandinavian (‪@thescandinaviangolfclub1185‬), is a renowned top-tier golf club in Denmark celebrated for its stunning natural scenery and exceptional design. The club was established by the three founders of the software company Navision, who, after selling their business to Microsoft in 2002, used part of the proceeds to convert an old military base into what is now one of the premier golf facilities in Europe.

The club features two world-class courses, the Old Course and the New Course, respectively completed and opened in 2010 and 2011. Both courses achieved immediate success, being ranked second and first in Denmark and within the Top 50 in the Continental European. In June 2024, The Scandinavian hosted the prestigious European Amateur Championship (EAC) and was recently awarded the Golf Environment Organization (GEO) certification, recognising its commitment to long-term sustainability.

The planning and construction of the courses took four years and was overseen by renowned golf course designer Robert Trent Jones II. Due to the site's history as a shooting range and its clay soil, extensive sand capping was employed during construction to create durable fairways that keep the course playable even in adverse weather conditions, ensuring ever-challenging green speeds.

The Old Course is famed for its strategic design, where precision is valued over driving distance. It incorporates numerous clever visual illusions to enhance its challenge — for instance, the 10th hole features two clusters of bunkers that appear as a single large hazard, and the 17th hole has a deceptively narrow landing area that requires careful club selection. Similarly, the New Course is also tight and challenging from the first hole, but it allows golfers to fully utilise their driving capability, demanding balanced risk-reward shots.

The Scandinavian stands as a testament to thoughtful design and meticulous planning, offering an impeccable golfing experience for enthusiasts of all skill levels. Beyond the courses, The Scandinavian also boasts top-notch facilities, including a state-of-the-art modern clubhouse, fine dining options, and comprehensive practice areas.
