Ever heard of an elephant sanctuary? They are safe havens for these gentle giants with that do not exploit or harm the elephants and allow them to live as they would in nature. There are several in Thailand so on my solo adventure to Phuket, I visited one of the most ethical elephant sanctuaries for a 3.5 hour adventure!

Traditionally, elephants would be subjected to entertainment for tourists which means enduring dangerous and demeaning “training” or conditioning. Hundreds of tourists would pay to ride on the backs of elephants and swim with or bathe them, and these practices may be a lifelong memory to those humans but are very harmful to the elephants. It’s important to do your research before traveling to any place where animals are put on display for entertainment purposes to ensure you are not supporting unethical practices.

The Phuket Elephant Nature Reserve was an easy choice for me because of the story they share about how they rescue, heal, and care for their elephants. Unlike other sanctuaries I researched, their half-day tour that I chose included a cooking demo and cooking lesson, so I was sold!

Overall, this was such a fun experience and highlight of my stay in Phuket. The Thai lunch was delicious, authentic, and easy to make! This is a must-do on your Phuket, Thailand trip.
