Описание к видео Demo calling for end to religious intolerance

(21 Jun 2015) Hundreds of people protested against religious intolerance in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday in the wake of an attack on a child outside a centre used by followers of the Afro-Brazilian religion, Candomble.
Banging drums and singing, Candomble followers dressed in traditional white attire called for respect for their religion.
Kaylane Campos was walking down a Rio de Janeiro street with her grandmother last Sunday when a man threw a rock that hit her head, causing her to faint.
She was taken to a hospital for treatment and was able to attend Sunday's protest with a bandage still visible under her white headscarf.
Followers of the religion frequently face hostility from Pentecostals who feel that Afro-Brazilian religions are a form of witchcraft and attack Candomble temples.
A spokesman for a group that fights religious intolerance, said the attackers were holding Bibles and shouted "Satan" at Campos, but that it was not known if the attackers belonged to a Pentecostal church.
Jose Roberto Cavalcante, pastor of the United Presbyterian church and director of the council of Christian churches of Rio de Janeiro said on Sunday that it was important to show that acts of violence against other religions are not widely supported.
"We think those are isolated and regrettable acts by extremists and are against our faith," he said.
"If we don't come out in public with this position we run the risk of being seen as complicit with those acts of violence that we consider unacceptable."
Candomble was developed in the 19th century by Brazil's slave populations, who associated the gods of the Yoruba people of West Africa with the pantheon of Roman Catholic saints in a bid to perpetuate their beliefs in the New World.
