As the Director of MTFLabs, Michela Magas curates and leads an ecosystem that specialises in democratising AI innovation. At events around the world, she brings together a diverse range of expert scientists and world class artists to experiment with cutting edge technologies and respond to grand challenges. At the core of this democratisation of technology is a key provocation: that there is a fundamental flaw in relying on binary technologies. The problem goes right back to the origins of Western thought and reason. Logic is based on a limiting polarity: One and Zero. Good and Bad. Right and Wrong. On and Off. Human and Technological. Male and Female. The era of AI requires new mental models. One of its key challenges lies in our definition of what it means to be a rational and ethical human being. We unleash extraordinary human powers when we join forces to create AI tools and design systems that augment our physical, emotional and rational capabilities. But for this to happen, what we mean by reasonable must change. Innovation catalyst who bridges the worlds of science and art, design and technology, and academic research and industry, with a track record of over 25 years of innovation. She is innovation advisor to the European Commission and the G7 leaders, and the creator of the Industry Commons.
In 2017 she was awarded European Woman Innovator of the Year and in 2016 she was presented with an Innovation Luminary Award for Creative Innovation.
She is the founder of Music Tech Fest, a global community platform of over 7000 creative innovators and scientific researchers. The platform provides a test case for innovation in areas as diverse as neuroscience, forestry and microcomputing.
