(11 Nov 2017) Alabama Republican U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore on Saturday addressed allegations of sexual misconduct at a Veterans Day event in a suburb of Birmingham.
Moore spoke to members and supporters of the Mid-Alabama Republican Club at the Vestavia Hills library.
After a lengthy speech on the importance of America's veterans, he spoke for nearly six minutes on a host of allegations he has been accused of over a nearly 40 year political career. The most recent being an article this week by the Washington Post. The report said Moore had a sexual encounter with a 14-year-old girl decades ago when he was in his early 30s. It also said he had pursued other teenage girls.
"These allegation came only four and a half weeks before the general election on Dec. 12. Why now?" he asked.
He pointed to his marriage of more than thirty years to his wife, Kayla, and he accused the article of being an attempt to derail his campaign.
"This article is a prime example of fake news," he said. "We do not intend to let the Democrats or the established Republicans or anybody else behind this story stop this campaign."
