Today on our 2015 Ram 3500 heavy duty crew cab we're going to be installing the Dee Zee Tailgate Assist custom tailgate lowering system for Ram trucks, part number DZ43301. Now here is our fitting that we're going to need to install into the tailgate. It has the tool actually to install this little crush fitting that will allow you to thread the bolt in. It will actually be this little ball and socket piece here. It will go in here. This pieces right here are actually for installing it.

Now we need to take a quick measurement. We're going to need to measure from the edge of the flat washer here out to the end of the nut. We need that to be 3/4". We look pretty good there. We're going to go ahead and install in the end. Now we're going to need to turn the nut a total of nine complete revolutions.

To make things a little easier so that we know where we're at we're just going to put a little dab of point so that we can get our top mark so that we know exactly how many times we've gone around. Now we have our setup. It will go ahead and slide in the hole right here. We have it in place. Now you're not going to turn the bolt but you will turn the nut nine complete revolutions.

Go ahead and hold it in tight. Now once you have the insert crimped down by tightening down and doing the number of turns on the nut you'll need to take the Allen key and you'll actually back the whole assembly out, leaving the insert in the tailgate. It will look something like that. Next we're going to need to go ahead and take the fitting, looks like this, take some of the blue thread locker that comes with the kit. Now with our thread locker on we can go ahead and thread the fitting in. Go ahead and take a 13mm socket.

Go ahead and torque it down to the manufacturer's specification. Next we're going to need to remove this bolt right here that secures the upper part of the cable. Now to make things a little bit easier we're actually going to remove the cable first. To do that you'll just simply lift out on the tab and gently lift up on the tailgate to give you a little bit more working room. Now they give you a tool to remove the T45 Torx-head bolt. To make things a little bit easier, if you have a socket that is actually a T45, it will makes things a little bit easier to do. Now with the bolt and washer removed we'll take our bracket here. We'll go through like this and we'll reinstall it. Next we're going to need to come over here on the lower part of where the cable is so we can go ahead and and we can reinstall the upper part of the cable. Slides in place like that. We'll then take the shock and the larger part, so this bottom part pulls out. We'll slide onto the ball here. To do that it just simply pushes in place. We'll go ahead and pull down on our shock. We'll go ahead and slide the smaller end down here on the other end. Now next we're going to need to remove the other end of the cable. We're going to need to remove the limiter. Again we'll use our T45. Now there's a little retaining washer that we'll need to slide off in order to get the limiting piece off. In order to get the flat washer off or the nut, we'll go ahead and pry up the edge a little bit. We'll then hold it with a pair of pliers and back the bolt out. We'll need to go ahead and set this piece off and it will not be reinstalled. Now we have the washer back in place. Go ahead and reinstall the cable into the tailgate. Next we're going to need to measure down 3-1/2" from the top of the cable here. We're going to need to install this little fitting right here. You'll notice how there's an angle cut on it. That will actually be up towards the top. We're just going to take a pair of pliers and squeeze it into position. Then we can go ahead and close our tailgate. Then with our tailgate assist installed, when you release it it lowers down slowly in a controlled descent. With that, that will do it for the installation of the Dee Zee Tailgate Assist custom tailgate lowering system for Ram trucks, part number DZ43301, as installed here on our 2015 Ram 3500 heavy duty crew cab. .
