Plant Tissue Culture

Описание к видео Plant Tissue Culture

Plant Tissue Culture is one of the methods of breeding plants. Using plant tissue culture, the plant cells, tissues, and other organs are maintained and grown in artificial conditions. This type of breeding was developed around 1950s and now has several applications in commercial production, laboratories, and in conserving endangered plant species.

Types of Plant Tissue Culture:
There are 6 main types of plant tissue culture which include Seed, Embroyo, Callus, Organ, Protoplast, and Anther cultures. The plant tissue culture technique uses the special properties of plant cells i.e. totipotency in which a single cell from any part of the plant can be used to generate a new plant.

Uses of Tissue Culture:
Plant tissue culture is used in micropropagation where genetically modified plants are modified from a single plant. It has several benefits and the two most important ones are-
1. In the production of commercially crucial plants, and
2. To develop disease free plants
