Newton’s Disc is a class 7 Science Activity. The activity is done using LABOXD Science kit. The construction of device is very simple. Join the parts given in the activity kit and connect to a battery. The disc rotates with the motor and shows the 7 colours as a single colour.
Newton’s disc is also known as disappearing colour disc. It is a disc with seven different colours [Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet]. These are the colours of white light. When the disc is made to spin with high speed it appears as a single colour disc, white or gray. This is due to optical mixing. The different colours cannot be seen separately because the human eye cannot distinguish it during high speed movement. This is known as persistence of vision. This experiment proves that white light is a combination of 7 colours. This disc is named after the famous scientist Newton.
